AP1: MQ/ Macquarie University

Introduction of the organization
Macquarie University is a university of discovery, learning, and engagement. Macquarie University engages students and staff through transformative learning and life experiences; it also engages the world through discovery, dissemination of knowledge and ideas, innovation, and collaborative partnerships. Macquarie University houses Australia’s first university-owned teaching hospital that delivers person-centred clinical care, learning and innovative research. Last year, Macquarie University was awarded >$172 million in research and block grants and taught 33,834 domestic and 10,181 international students from 113 countries. 

The Australian Institute for Health Innovation (AIHI) is a research-intensive institute at Macquarie University. It has more than 261 researchers and affiliates conducting world-class research to catalyse performance improvement in public health, health policy, and healthcare services and systems in Australia and internationally. 

Role in the project
Macquarie University is an associate partner in ProtAct-Us and, through the involvement of Professor Rebecca Mitchell at the Australian Institute of Health Innovation, provides advice on metadata associated with serious road trauma and the analysis of road traffic injury data and data on the long-term consequences of road trauma.  Macquarie University contributes to the Assessment Concept and Use Cases Definition, Development: Medical and Epidemiological Methods regarding the development of an Injury Severity Metric and Assessment methods for safety measures, and Assessment of safety measures’ impact on long-term physical, psychosocial and economic consequences.
