P8. LAB

Introduction of the organization
The Laboratory of Accidentology, Biomechanics and Human Behaviour (LAB) was founded more than 50 years ago by Peugeot SA and Renault. Today, it belongs to Renault Group and Stellantis NV. It covers all key aspects of a road accident, from its genesis until rescue, passing by biomechanical research on human body response and tolerance. During the past decades, hands on hands with its partners worldwide, the LAB Biomechanics Team has significantly contributed to the development of knowledge and tools, including human body surrogate devices and models, which have allowed substantial mitigation of consequences of road accidents worldwide. Facing the future, the LAB is firmly engaged to continue its effort, together with its partners, to meet all new challenges linked to the rapid evolution of the mobility course.

Role in the project
LAB
will evaluate the capability of available HBMs to assess long-term consequences injuries (LTCIs) not only for vehicle occupants but also for vulnerable road users (VRUs). If needed, factors such as size, gender, and age will be considered to reflect critical scenarios identified using real road accident data. In this process, modifications of HBMs may be performed, relevant injury criteria defined, and corresponding injury threshold/risk functions developed.
